Chvad SB’s sonic experiments focus on new sounds & textures, but always with a human edge. Using a wide variety of instruments including modular synthesizers, found objects, hand-built instruments, guitars, & voice, Chvad SB builds soundscapes that are as unsettling as they are familiar. Many compositions & performances are entirely improvisational in nature while others are arranged & developed over the course of years.
Structure is Chvad SB’s 29th full length release & 80th release in total including albums, singles, film scores, compilations & remixes. Aside from releasing solo recorded pieces Chvad SB records with experimental music pioneers Controlled Bleeding (Arttofact Records Wax Trax, Soleil Moon, others). Chvad SB’s last album with Controlled Bleeding, 2016’s Larva Lumps & Baby Bumps, received praise & attention from a wide variety of outlets from The Wall Street Journal to Pitchfork.
Chvad SB’s last release, Phenomenalism, Cartesian Doubt & Bomb #20, was an abstract discussion of science fiction themes & artificial intelligence, but on Structure he shifts focus to stationary moments & recollection. Reminiscent drones calling back to Crickets Were the Compass lurk around corners, but gone are the dense layers of modular synthesis, replaced by densely droning strings, slide guitars, & the gentle stroke of the plectrum. Sonic experiments focusing on new sounds & textures & discovery, but always with an edge expressing human emotion. Crickets Were the Compass was loss, Phenomenalism, Cartesian Doubt & Bomb #20 was cold math, & now Structure is two distinctive melodic drones comfortable with staring time directly in the face & not caring if the seconds & minutes slip by never to return. In Structure being right here in this moment right now is fine. Now. Perpetually. Droning forever.
